The Commission on Elections Second Division has disqualified Gloria Alisbo from being barangay chairman of Barangay 9 in Bacolod City on the grounds that she is not a resident of the barangay.

The Commission also ordered the highest ranking Barangay Kagawad of Brgy. 9 to succeed Alisbo in a resolution signed by presiding commissioner Rene Sarmiento and commissioner Nicodemo Ferrer promulgated Feb. 28, 2008.

A copy of the resolution was obtained by the media yesterday from City Legal Officer Allan Zamora, counsel of petitioner Gary Yanson, former Barangay Captain of Brgy. 9.moremoremore

idol takes beating

A fan of boxing icon Manny Pacquiao suffered a massive heart attack and died as his idol absorbed a beating and bled in the seventh round of his fight against Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez Sunday.

Celedonio Dingle Sr., 73, of Barangay Nato, La Castellana, was watching the fight in Las Vegas that was being broadcast live on cable television, his son–in-law Nato Barangay Captain William Pendon said yesterday.

Dingle, a retired sugar farm worker, had gone to the La Castellana town proper to watch the fight at the house of his son in-in-law Julio Gonzales, who has cable TV, Pendon told the DAILY STAR. .moremoremore

Guv: Capitol marking
b-day of Marañon

The Negros Occidental provincial government will mark what would have been the 74th birthday of Gov. Joseph Marañon today with a mass, while a cooperative bank will be inaugurated to honor his legacy, Gov. Isidro Zayco said yesterday.

Marañon, who had been governor of Negros Occidental for seven years, passed away on March 13 and was laid to rest in Sagay City on Monday.

Zayco said a mass will be held at the Social Hall of the provincial Capitol in Bacolod City at 8:30 a.m. today in remembrance of the governor.moremoremore
