Four-car collision
on way to funeral

BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

Bacolod First Lady Elsa Leonardia was slightly injured when the vehicle she was riding in figured in an accident along the Cadiz City highway while on the way to  the funeral of  Negros Occidental Governor Joseph Marañon in Sagay City yesterday.

Leonardia, who was on board the gray Toyota Innova owned by DAILY STAR editor-in-chief and president, Ninfa Leonardia, sustained injuries in her neck and was brought to the Riverside Medical Center after she arrived from Sagay.

In a telephone interview from the hospital, Mrs. Leonardia said  her physician, Dr. Carmelo Canto, had advised her to wear a neck brace because her neck bones  had  slightly straightened  from  their normal curved position as a result of the collision’s impact.

PO2 Joremel Escaro of the Cadiz City police, said that based on the investigation of PO3 Nilo Olvido, the four-car collision happened when a vehicle slowed down to avoid a damaged section of  the road.

An Isuzu Trooper  behind the first vehicleslowed down, followed by a Land Cruiser, when the Innova bumped the Cruiser’s rear, Escara said.

An Isuzu Crosswind behind the Innova then hit its rear, causing it to hit the vehicle in front of it again,  Escara said.

Meanwhile, Leonardia said she is likely to check out of the hospital today after a 24-hour observation period.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia’s sister, Perla, who was also on board the Innova, also felt neck pains because of a rise in her blood pressure but it eventually subsided and she was fine, Mrs. Leonardia said.*PP
