5 cops linked to drugs
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The Police Regional Office 6 is validating claims  that  five policemen, including a senior police officer,  are involved in the illegal drug trade in Western Visayas.

Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas, regional police director,  said “it remains to be just information” as of this time, considering that there is no witness to testify and hard evidence that could lead to the filing of cases against them.

If there is circumstantial evidence and we will not be able to establish a case against them, all we have to do is  remove them from the areas where they are being assigned, so that they will be dis-associated with such illegal activities, he said.

The lists of policemen and even two broadcasters in Iloilo linked to the illegal drug trade, were submitted by a concerned citizen to the Department of Justice.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency is spearheading the anti-drug campaign nationwide, assisted by policemen who have been deputized as drug busters.

Cuevas, however, said RA 9165, known as the Comprehensive Drug Act of 2002, does not divest the PNP of its duties and responsibility regarding the anti-drug campaign.

ABDUCTION

Meanwhile, Cuevas also ordered the Aklan Provincial Police Office to act if there is a formal complaint, on the reported abduction of two alleged Abu Sayyaf terrorists in Boracay, last week.

Imams (Muslim clerics) Muhammad Bani,27, and Midzbar Bunajal,24,  were reportedly taken by at least seven armed men being alleged as members of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, on March 8, at the island resort.

Cuevas said they have no confirmation that the two Muslim clerics were abducted by alleged ISAFP agents.*GPB
