| The United Negros Drivers and Operators Center issued a petition last week requesting the Office of the Mayor through the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Transportation to conduct an inquiry into the rampant issuances of “Certificates of Public Conveyance” in Bacolod City.
The petition signed by Rommel Santillan and Jesse Ortega, UNDOC chairman and secretary-general respectively, said that the group has noted that practically all routes in Bacolod City are crowded with new public utility vehicles that have been issued Land Transportation case numbers in 2006 and 2007 despite the fact that the LTFRB has closed these routes for issuance of CPCs in 2003 yet.
It said UNDOC’s affiliate association members based in Fortune Towne were able to document franchises issued to new PUJ’s and these have been submitted to Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr. in the form of a complaint.
UNDOC wrote LTFRB regional director Porfirio Clavel regarding the franchise duplication problem in Bacolod City that has victimized several PUJ operators.
In a radio interview, Clavel said he has referred the matter to the National Bureau of Investigation. However, the group noted that the fixers continue to facilitate the issuance of fake franchises since not one of them has been made to answer for their illegal act.
The group is requesting the intervention of the local government through the SP to summon for questioning Clavel, the Joston Motors and the B-M Motors in Bacolod City, in relation to the issuances of CPCs in the city.*CGS
