| Serge Velez, a 39-year-old Bacolod businessman, took the overall championship of the Rotary 'Golf-for-a-Cause' tournament at the Negros Golf and Country Club in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City.
Velez, who plays twice a week at the club, registered a net score of 42 points under the Stableford scoring system. He has a handicap of 11.
"I'm delighted to take the title,” he said. "It's been more than five years since I won a tournament so I'm more than a pleased with the result".
Also topping their respective divisions were Class A titlist Chepe Dulay (handicap 4) 39 points; Class B Paquit Infante (hcp 13) 42 points; Class C Red Davis (hcp18) 39 points; Class D Lito Jison (hcp 27) (h’cap 23) 42 points and Ladies Vicky Verdeflor (hcp 30) 40 points.
The results were based on Saturday's play only as the event was rained out on Sunday, a press release from organizers said.
“This was the 11th Rotary 'Golf for a Cause’ tournament”, said Eduardo Coscolluela, president of the Rotary Club of Bacolod Marapara, organizers of the event.
“Despite the heavy rains on day two, it was a great success with an excellent turnout of players.
Proceeds of the tournament backed by Coca-Cola, DHL, Shangri La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Philippine Airlines and Davao Molasses Hauling will go to the expenses for medical missions. *
