| Man shoots at cops;
to face criminal raps
The police yesterday said they are readying charges against a man who allegedly threatened two cops in Bacolod City early yesterday.
Police Station 2 commander, Senior Inspector Luisito Acebuche, said cases for indiscriminate firing may be lodged against a man identified only as “Kid Ramir” for using his gun at the corner of 18th-Lacson streets, Bacolod, at about 1:45 a.m. yesterday.
Police Station 5 members PO1 Kenneth Ronquillo said he and PO1 Ricardo Villacasten were walking towards Lacson Street from a fiesta in Brgy. 3, Bacolod, when the suspect waylaid them and fired his gun.
Ronquillo, who said they were both off duty at that time, said they did not see if “Kid Ramir” was aiming at them as they both ducked but, he said, he also took out his gun and fired it upwards.
He said aside from an incident between him and the suspect four years ago in a business establishment at the Goldenfield Commercial Complex, he doesn’t know any motive for “Kid Ramir” to harm him even though they met him at a store in Brgy. 3.
Ronquillo said he and Villacasten had a few drinks with their friends while “Kid Ramir” was also drinking with his friends.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City Police Office director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, said Ronquillo and Villacasten will be subjected to an investigation over reports that they came from a cockpit in Brgy. 3 before they were waylaid by “Kid Ramir.”
Both Ronquillo and Villacasten, however, denied entering the cockpit.
Region 6 Philippine National Police director, Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas, had ordered officers in Western Visayas to keep out of cockpits, even if they are not on duty.*PP

Traffic altercation probe on
The management of the jeepney group and the police officers who figured in a scuffle last week yesterday said the possibility of charges or settlement of their differences will depend on talks between them today as part of the investigation on the incident continues.
Joemarie Uytiepo, manager of Uytiepo Lines, said their drivers will attend the meeting at the Bacolod City Police Office today to give their statements on the brawl between them and three BCPO City Mobile Group members around midnight Thursday.
PO1 Roberto Pineda Jr., PO1 Joey Genterola, and PO2 Alexis Disomangcop told the DAILY STAR they will also attend the meeting today to present their version of the incident as the BCPO Intelligence and Investigation Branch continues its probe.
Both the jeepney group and the police said possibilities of charges or settlement among them would depend on the discussions.
BCPO director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, said the main point of the talks would be to see whether the violence between the two groups were either just a result of a misunderstanding or violations of laws.
The three policemen had been disarmed and restricted to the BCPO compound after the incident.
Uytiepo, meanwhile, had said that they are preparing the charges against the three officers, including a complaint at the Commission on Human Rights.
The conflict stemmed from a traffic altercation between the BCPO-CMG members and Uytiepo Lines driver Dionerico Dionson along B.S. Aquino Drive, Bacolod, around midnight Thursday.
The drivers claimed they were threatened by the officers with their guns when they caught up with Dionson while the policemen said they were mobbed by them, prompting Disomangcop to fire warning shots on the ground.
The officers said that they did not intend to harm any of the drivers because had they did, many of them could have been shot because they all have guns at that time.*PP
