Malacañang yesterday named Administrator Marianito Roque of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration as acting secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment following the appointment of Labor Secretary Arturo Brion as Supreme Court Associate Justice, the Philippine News Agency said.

Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said Roque has wide experience as far as labor sector is concerned and his  accomplishments in helping overseas Filipino workers were also considered.

Brion yesterday took his oath as the latest member of the Supreme Court, replacing Associate Justice Angelina Sandoval Gutierrez who retired on February 27.

Bunye said the new SC associate justice "brings with him a wealth of experience as a public servant and legal luminary."

 He said that is a man of proven integrity and independence, having served in the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Court of Appeals, and the Department of Labor and Employment with probity, patriotism and competence."*
