The Public Employment Office of the Bacolod City government is accepting applicants for its Special Program for the Employment of Students until tomorrow, Executive Assistant to the Mayor Moises de la Cruz said yesterday.
Dela Cruz said the city can accommodate up to 130 scholars. Applicants are required to submit a certificate from the school where they are enrolled, a certificate from the barangay captain that he or she is a resident of a barangay in Bacolod City, and their family income should not exceed P30,000 a year, he said.
The applicant should be 15 to 25 years old and have no failing grade, he added.
Boracay steps up
security for tourists
ILOILO CITY – Security measures have been tightened on Boracay Island with the expected deluge of tourists going to the island-resort during the Holy Week.
Senior Insp. Auxilio Dador, chief of the Boracay Special Tourist Police Office, said more policemen will be deployed on the island this week to ensure security of tourists and to maintain peace and order.
This would include deployment of policemen the Aklan Provincial Police Office and the Regional Mobile Group. Police operatives will also intensify intelligence monitoring especially in crowded areas against pickpockets, petty thieves and peddlers of illegal drugs.


Roque appointed
acting DOLE chief
Malacañang yesterday named Administrator Marianito Roque of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration as acting secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment following the appointment of Labor Secretary Arturo Brion as Supreme Court Associate Justice, the Philippine News Agency said.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said Roque has wide experience as far as labor sector is concerned and his accomplishments in helping overseas Filipino workers were also considered.
Brion yesterday took his oath as the latest member of the Supreme Court, replacing Associate Justice Angelina Sandoval Gutierrez who retired on February 27.
