| One of the two suspected swindlers arrested by law enforcers in Bacolod City last week had posted bail Saturday as police investigators and prosecutors continue their probe on the couples’ alleged illegal activities and prepare more charges against them, the Philippine National Police said yesterday.
Bacolod City Police Office director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, said Sheila Luable, 21, had posted bail of about P20,000 at the Hall of Justice Saturday, three days after she and her lover, Jonathan Tomacruz, 27, were nabbed by officers in Brgy. Bubog, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Police Station 3 commander, Chief Inspector Leonardo Borromeo, and PO2 Rose Mae Diaz of the BCPO Women’s and Children’s Concerns Desk confirmed Luable’s release from custody.
Luable and Tomacruz, who initially used the name Michael Contreras, were tagged as the couple who have allegedly hit at least a dozen residences around Negros Occidental, stealing an estimated P2 million in cash and valuables by tricking house helpers that they are their employers’ relatives.
Borromeo, who had earlier confirmed the filing of robbery and swindling charges against the couple, said Tomacruz is still in custody although he said, the latter had expressed plans to post bail, too.
He said another swindling case is being processed for filing against Tomacruz, while Police Station 4 commander, Chief Inspector Santiago Rapiz, said they will wait for their turn to investigate the couple.
Rapiz said Friday that they had lodged two swindling cases against the two.
Also on Friday, BCPO deputy director, Supt. Leo Erwin Agpangan, showed the media two computers, valued at around P100,000, recovered from a pawnshop in Bacolod, as they started recovering the items allegedly stolen by Tomacruz and Luable.
Agpangan said Tomacruz was mostly involved in taking the items while Luable, a former Miss Silay Tourism titlist, took charge of disposing of the loot.
He also called on other people who may have been victimized by the two to coordinate with the police for the filing of charges against them and the possible recovery of their properties.*PP
