Nietes: Pacquiao
is our inspiration

Negrense world boxing champion Donnie Nietes said Manny Pacquiao’s dramatic victory over Juan Manuel Marquez serves as an inspiration for him and other Filipino boxers, who are also hoping to make it big in the sport.
“His win is a big morale boost for us, professional boxers,” Nietes, who comes from a family of boxers in Murcia town and Barangay Granada, Bacolod City, told the DAILY STAR last night in a telephone interview.
“We draw a lot of inspiration from Pacquiao,” Nietes added.
| Farenas wins but Gabi falls Filipino featherweight Michael Farenas won by knockout but compatriot Diosdado Gabi failed in the preliminary fights before the battle between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas. Gabi lost to North American Boxing Organization bantamweight champion Abner Mares, who sent the Cebuano (30-4-1, 22 KOs) down to the canvas twice in the second round to score his 16th straight win. Referee Jay Nady stopped the fight 49 seconds into the second round as Gabi absorbed too much punishment from the young Mexican. |
