| World of Fun and Probac begin their virtual best-of-three series for the Class A title in the 8th Tan Kek Pin Cup Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School tonight.
Both teams reached the finals after winning their first two games in the single-round semifinals. WOF clinched a finals seat by nipping Province of Negros Occidental, 99-97, while Probac came-from-behind to repulse Talisay, 91-78.
Tonight’s game is actually just the conclusion of the semifinals but the winner will gain the twice-to-beat advantage in the championship on Saturday since the tournament format awards the incentive for the team that sweeps in the semis.
Probac clawed their way back from a 15-28 deficit to secure the win as Peewee Demonteverde, Chad Paez, Andy Angudong and Ariston Sillana did most of the damage.
The turning point came in the third quarter when Probac finally took charge with Paez and Angudong waxing hot from beyond the arc.
Instead of folding up after Talisay’s Christian Antiporda’s one-handed slam on Sillana in the second quarter, Probac came out even more fired up to turn the tide.
Demonteverde finished with 18 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, while Paez added 16. Nonoy Hugnatan paced Talisay with 17 points.
Johnson Salazar once again stood at the forefront of World of Fun’s assault, finishing with 20 points. Ronald Arabia got WOF going in the opening quarter, posting 14 of his 17 points.*CPT
