Sibulan police chief
eyes vendors-free park
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The new chief of police in Sibulan has instituted reforms and a strategy to encourage Sibulanons to love their place and invite tourists and investors.

He has convinced the mayor and the Sangguniang Bayan to clear the municipal park of vendors, and for the establishment of the so-called “police at the park,” Senior Inspector Errol Garchitorena said yesterday.

The Sibulan police station is now situated at the municipal plaza for visibility and a semblance of order, but the detention center will remain at the old site.

Garchitorena said even without the police station at the park, selling of goods at the plaza is against existing laws. In fact, some ambulant vendors’ “tiendas” don’t have permits, and he has organized the “ukay-ukay” stalls, he said.

Garchitorena said he wanted to enforce the laws, including Mayor Antonio Renacia’s instruction to him to implement the helmet ordinance.*MA
