Brgys tapped in fight vs. crimes
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Communication equipment to combat criminality will be given to barangays to maintain peace and order in Dumaguete City, Councilor Manuel Sagarbarria said yesterday.

Sagarbarria said more than a P100,000 was allotted by the City Peace and Order Council for the purchase of an initial 12 handsets for six far-flung villages.

He said the CPOC has a total allotment of P800,000 this year.

Rep. George Arnaiz (NegOr, 2nd district) has also intimated his intention to help the CPOC, Sagarbarria said.

Dumaguete has a population of over 150,000 during nighttime, but reaches 300,000 or more during daytime due to the influx of visitors from southern Cebu, Siquijor, Bacolod, including businessmen and students, among others, records show.

At present, the city police has only 80 personnel, short or half the number for the required ratio of 1:1000, the CPOC said.*JG
