Swindlers hit
another city home
BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

Despite repeated vows from the police to arrest swindlers and warnings to the public, on Monday an unidentified man tricked another helper into allowing him and his companion to enter her employer’s house in Bacolod City where they stole cash and valuables.

Police Station 4 commander, Chief Inspector Santiago Rapiz, said they are still trying to establish the identity of the man and woman who stole from the house of Ma. Dolores Matulac, 61, at Aries Street, Capitol Hills Subdivision, Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod, at about 4 p.m. Monday.

Matulac told the police that a man who identified himself as a teacher to her helper, who was alone in the house, took jewelry worth P117,000 and P30,000 in cash.

Matulac, however, refused to detail how the suspect managed to enter her residence and take her properties but told the DAILY STAR she is challenging the police to apprehend him.

Rapiz said the man could be the same suspect who had stolen thousands of pesos in cash and valuables from six other houses in Bacolod City earlier.

The description of the man by Matulac’s helper is identical to the suspect in the series of swindling incidents in the city, he said.

The man who went to Matulac’s house is about 28 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, and of medium in build, while the one described by previous victims is about 20-25 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, of fair complexion, small build, and speaks fluent Ilonggo.

The police have repeatedly warned the public not to let strangers into their homes.*PP
