KJ-CSB makes finals;
Baciwa, H&S collide

KJ Fairmart-City Savings Bank scored a 97-89 win over Head and Shoulders Sunday to move into the finals of the class B division of the 8th Tan Kek Pin Cup Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

It was KJ-CSB’s second straight win in the single-round semifinals and secured the first championship slot in the division. The KJ cagers can clinch a twice-to-beat advantage in the finals if they beat Davies tonight.

Gherald Abrot paced KJ with 18 points, including four triples, while JR Fernandez and Sherman Gonzales added 11 apiece. Richard Decida had 18 for Head and Shoulders.

Meanwhile, Baciwa kept its flickering title hopes alive by rallying past Davies, 102-99. With the win, Baciwa paved the way for a do-or-die showdown against Head and Shoulders tonight for the second finals berth.

The Baciwa cagers clawed their way back from a 69-83 hole, thanks to Ryan Agena and JP Yulo who joined forces for 15 points as their team outscored Davies, 33-16, in the final period.

Kevin Relatos got Davies going in the first quarter, where he scored 18 of his game-high 23 points, before Agena and Yulo struck to lift Baciwa.

Aaron Guevarra almost sent the game into overtime but his triple bounced off the rim as time expired.

Yulo and Agena finished with 18 and 16 points, respectively.*
