| Diabetic hangs self
A 50-year-old man hanged himself in Bacolod City yesterday, just after three other men also killed themselves in separate incidents in Negros Occidental last month.
Family members of Samuel Empleo found him hanging from a nylon wire at their house in Purok Galeris, Brgy. 21, Bacolod, at about 7 a.m. yesterday, police records show.
Empleo’s wife, Mary Ann, told investigators her husband may have decided to kill himself after years of suffering from diabetes.
Rowena Bañes, chairperson of the University of St. La Salle Psychology department, said people who commit suicide are those who usually don’t have a “support system” or someone to talk to, especially when they face “overwhelming emotions.”
Those who attempt to kill themselves, on the other hand, Bañes said, are “actually trying to ask for help” from people around them.
Family members or friends of individuals who may have tried to commit suicide must, therefore, be sensitive to know that their loved ones need someone to talk to and they should listen to them, Bañes said.
On February 22, 14-year-old Emmanuel Tubera of Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod also hanged himself over still unknown reasons.
His grandfather told the police he was always silent and in deep thought and that he was expelled from school over alleged possession of a knife along with other students.
Tubera’s death happened just four days after Alexander Dandal, 45, committed suicide at his family’s house in Brgy 3, Pontevedra town, in the province over unpaid debts for implements he bought for a fish farm he was managing, police said.
On February 17, the decomposing body of Anthony Guanco, 21, was discovered by neighbors. His family had told police probers they were uncertain on what pushed him to end his life.*PP

4 pilfering suspects caught
Four persons were caught allegedly in the act of stealing items from a grocery store and bakery during an early morning stakeout operation in Bacolod City yesterday, the police said.
Virgelio Dacaldacal, 30, of Narra, Cauayan town, Richard Escarda, 20, of Brgy. Caduhaan, Cadiz City, security guard Ramylo Bojos, 48, of Brgy. 29, Bacolod, all in Negros Occidental, were nabbed by Police Station 2 commander, Senior Inspector Luisito Acebuche, and PO2 Richard Delasa.
The three were all employees of Breadmaster grocery and bakeshop owned by Betty Moleño at the corner of North Drive and San Juan Street, Bacolod, while Manuel Ledesma, 40, of Purok Lubi, Brgy. 3, Bacolod, who was also arrested, acted as their outside accomplice, police records said.
Moleño told the police the suspects have been pilfering from their stocks for quite a while and they have taken an estimated P300,000 worth of goods already.
The four were arrested as they helped each other transfer a box of shampoo bottles worth P1,100, out of the store at about 3:30 a.m. yesterday, police records show.
Acebuche said they have been monitoring the suspects for four nights already after Moleño asked for assistance.
The four had admitted to stealing from Moleño after their arrest, Acebuche said.
When asked by the DAILY STAR, however, only Dacaldacal responded, denying the allegations.
Acebuche said they will file the theft and qualified theft charges against the four, and another case for violation of the Anti-Fencing Law against the woman who bought the items they have previously stolen from the shop today.*PP

2 rob suspects nabbed
Two suspects were arrested by the police after they allegedly robbed a couple in Moises Padilla, while an Isabela resident was nabbed for illegal possession of firearms Saturday in Murcia, the police yesterday said.
Arrested by policemen and 613rd Provincial Mobile Group troopers in Brgy. Crossing Magallon, Moises Padilla, were Rene Gregario and Joseph Isanan, both 20.
Chief Inspector Rosauro Francisco, in his report to Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, said two of the three arrested suspects and their at-large companion identified as Jomar Nicor,21, robbed at knife-point Lito Gubay and his wife, Melba, in Hacienda Julian, Brgy. Crossing Magallon, Moises Padilla.
Francisco said the couple was robbed of P8,000 by the three suspects.
However, two of the three suspects were arrested by the police during a pursuit operation, in coordination with the 613rd PMG troopers, minus the P8,000 in cash that was reportedly in the possession of Nicor, who remained at-large as of yesterday.
Two bladed weapons with scabbards were recovered from the two suspects who are now detained at the Moises Padilla Police Station Jail.
Meanwhile, a certain Gene Boy Amparado,21, was also arrested by the police in Brgy. Santa Rosa, Murcia, for illegal possession of firearms,
Senior Inspector Simeon Gane, Murcia police chief, said the arrest of Amparado yielded a .38 caliber revolver with ammunition.*GPB
