| Romar Villones of Talisay City and William Chua topped the joint qualifying tournament for the San Miguel Beer-Quezon City 9-Ball Tour over the weekend at the Celebrity Bar and Grill in Bacolod City.
The 28-year-old Villones of Talisay, Negros Occidental and Chua, 26, of Cebu City will join the seeded players led by former world champions Efren “Bata” Reyes, Alex Pagulayan and Ronnie Alcano, as well as Northern Luzon qualifier Aram Serquiano in the 32-man main draw of this $25,000-plus tournament.
The duo pocketed P5,000 each, tournament director Christopher Palses said.
Villones defeated Noel Caro, 9-6, Antonio Cusi, 9-6, Marvin Gentapa, 9-7, and national team member Rey Grandea, 9-1, on his way to clinching a berth in the tournament that starts March 17.
Chua beat Kenvin Gellesana, 9-1, Beben Jabien, 9-5, Art Publico Jr., 9-7, and Ryan Cimafranca, 9-7, respectively.
The other seeded players are Francisco “Django” Bustamante, current world no.1 Dennis Orcollo, 2007 World Pool runner-up Roberto Gomez, reigning national champion Lee Van Corteza, former Asian Games gold medalist Gandy Valle, veteran internationalists Rodolfo Luat, Warren Kiamco, Antonio Lining and Ramil Gallego and top rising star Joven Bustamante.
Open to all, including female and foreign players, the SMB-QC 9-Ball tilt, co-organized by Bugsy Promotions, Puyat Sports and Negros Billiards Stable, offers a champion’s purse of $10,000 with the rest of the main draw participants assured of cash prizes.
The three-day tournament will be shown live on ABC 5 from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.*CPT
