Dumaguete welcomes
new police commander

BY MARICAR ARANAS

Supt. Leopoldo Cabanag will formally assume his post as the new chief of police of Dumaguete City today, replacing Supt. Dionardo Carlos.

Cabanag, who had been assigned as head of the Guihulngan City police, acted as officer-in-charge of the city police, when Carlos was on official leave of absence.

He has also been assistant provincial director at the Philippine National Police of Negros Oriental at Agan-an, Sibulan.

Meanwhile, Carlos said  his  stint  in  Dumaguete   was so  far  the  best  assignment  in  his service  as  police officer.

Dumaguete is not an  easy  place   to handle, as  it  is  a capital  city, he said.

Dumaguete  will be  in   good  hands  under Cabanag, Carlos said, stressing that it pains him to leave the city but he  has  to  settle  some  important  things   with  his  family.

Carlos reiterated the statement  of President  Gloria  Macapagal-Arroyo,  during  one of  her visits  in the  province last year, that Dumaguete   remains  the  most  peaceful  place  compared  to other  areas  in  the  country.*MA
