| Negros Occidental Lin-ay sang Negros 2005 winner Rizza Liz Catigan did not make it to the Top 10 of the Bb. Pilipinas 2008 pageant Saturday night but her beautiful voice won her the Miss Talent special award.
Catigan joined the national beauty contest with several beauty titles under her name, including Lin-ay sang Sagay, Murcia and Sipalay City. She was also crowned Miss Riverside 2004, Miss Himamaylan and Miss Binalbagan and was a runner-up in the Kabankalan, Candoni, Valladolid and MassKara Queen pageant in Bacolod City.
The Negrense beauty was one of the 24 candidates in this year’s beauty search for the country’s representatives to the Miss International, Universe, and World pageants won by Patricia Fernandez, Jennifer Barrientos, and Janina San Miguel, respectively – the latter earning numerous criticisms online for her boo-boo in the question and answer portion.
San Miguel, who also won the long gown and swimsuit awards, was criticized for her answer to the question asked by Lucio Tan’s daughter Vivienne Tan who was one of the judges.
Asked about the role her family plays in her participation in the Bb. Pilipinas, she stammered about being a neophyte in beauty contests and apologized to the crowd for saying earlier that she was confident.
San Miguel, 17, is a Mass Communication student at the University of the East and was first runner-up in Miss UE. She will represent the Philippines in the Miss World contest this year in Kiev, Ukraine.
Patricia Fernandez, who was crowned Bb. Pilipinas Universe, will represent the county in the contest in Vietnam this year, while Jennifer Barrientos will compete in the Miss International contest in Japan.*NAB
