Dumpsite appraisal on
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has convened the Appraisal Committee that will appraise the value of the Lopez property, the present dumpsite of Bacolod City in Barangay Felisa, which is being sold by the owners to the city, Councilor Greg Gasataya yesterday said.

The committee is composed of the Offices of the City Engineer's, City Treasurer's, and City Assessor's.

The Clean and Green Monitoring Team, which he heads, has recommended that the Appraisal Team be reconvened after landowner Ester Lopez wrote the city demanding payment for their property within 30 days from receipt of their letter or they will be constrained to close it down, he said.

Lopez, of the Dynasty Agricultural Corp., wrote the mayor demanding compensation of P600 per square meter or a total of about P42 million.

Their property with an area of about 70,000 square meters has been utilized by the city for free for several years now, she said.

Gasataya, chairman of the Committee on Environment and Ecology, said he is seeking the opinion of City Legal Officer Allan Zamora whether the letter of Lopez is an offer to sell or just a demand for compensation for the use of their property.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution last week requesting the mayor to ask the owners of the property for an extension of the deadline.

Gasataya said that at present, the city continues to dump garbage at the Felisa dumpsite.*CGS
