Landslide blocks highway
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The two lanes of a portion of the highway leading to San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, that was hit by a landslide Friday night were fully opened to traffic yesterday, Engineer Sanny Boy Oropel of the First Engineering District said.

A landslide brought on by heavy rains covered 50 to 70 meters of the highway at Kilometer 80, San Carlos City, at about 6:30 p.m. Friday blocking traffic passing through the Bacolod-Don Salvador Benedicto route to the northern city for 15 hours.

At 5 a.m. Saturday his men started clearing the road and one lane of the highway was open to traffic by 10 a.m. of the same day, Oropel said.

As of yesterday both lanes were open and clearing of the shoulder of the highway was expected to be completed at 5:30 p.m., Oropel added.*CPG
