| Fifteen persons suffering from symptoms of suspected food poisoning were admitted last night at the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital (also known as the Riverside Medical Center) in Bacolod City, a hospital source said.
The source said the patients were from Mighty Corp.
Dr. Salome Biñas, OIC City Health Officer, who called the hospital to check on the report, confirmed that more than 10 persons suffering from loose bowel movement and vomiting were brought to the hospital last night.
One source said as many as 50 Mighty Corp. employees had suffered from upset stomachs.
Biñas said she will try to contact the medical resident on-duty to get the details about the report, pointing out that the CHO is obligated to check on cases of food poisoning, particularly if it involves a lot of people.
Reports gathered by the DAILY STAR showed that Mighty Corp. was having its sportsfest at the La Herencia clubhouse yesterday where they stayed the whole day and ate catered food.
La Herencia personnel confirmed that personnel from the company stayed in their facility yesterday.
After the activity, the participants went home although some could have passed by some eateries or restaurants to eat, the source said.
Food poisoning comes from eating food that contain bacteria or toxins, which are poisonous substances. Mild cases of food poisoning with symptoms of diarrhea and an upset stomach can be common, online health information said.
Feeling sick from food poisoning shows up within hours of eating the bad food, although on other times, the patient may not feel sick until several days later, the online information added.*NAB
