| Provincial Agriculture Officer Gregorio Paltinca yesterday ordered all agriculture technicians to establish 500-square meter demonstration farms in every Barangay Agricultural Development Center in Negros Oriental.
The demo farms will boost the campaign for bio-intensive gardening through organic farming methods, Patinca said.
The province has set a target to improve the production of high-value vegetables and fruits, especially with the increasing market demand of organically grown farm products, he added.
Farmers cannot supply the demand due to their limited farm inputs and areas. The province presently has 96 BADC areas, which resulted in positive yield and greatly helped the farmers.
Farmers are now more enticed to plant systematically using high valued crops, although some farmers are still reluctant to adopt organic farming methods.
BADC sites with demo farms include those in Apolong, Valencia, Sibulan, Manjuyod, Mabinay, Basay, Bindoy and Ayungon.*MA
