SECPA applications rise: NSO

NSO reports increase applicants

The National Statistics Office yesterday reported a tremendous increase of applicants requesting for the issuance of security papers for birth, marriage and death certificates.

NSO chief Ariel Florendo said most of the requests came from those seeking employment abroad, and from students.

Most often, inconsistent school records with that of the NSO are a hindrance to graduating students and to their taking of board exams, he said.

Athletes are also required to submit NSO certifications, especially with the forthcoming holding of the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet, which will be hosted by the province and the city this year, Florendo added.

The temporary closure of the NSO Cebu branch had also contributed to the tremendous increase in the number of applicants at the NSO Dumaguete.

NSO Dumaguete employees had to work as early as 7 a.m. in order to accommodate applicants from as far as Cebu. Some local government units, though, have been authorized to issue security papers, Florendo disclosed.*JG
