Domestic sugar prices
sustain upward trend 

Prices of “B” or domestic sugar in Negros and Panay sustained their upward trend hitting as much as P1,107.38 per Lkg after a  high of P1,105.01 last week, data of  the Sugar Master Plan Foundation show.

At the March 6 bidding, prices were between P1,072 and P1,107.38 from last week’s (Feb. 28) range of  P1,070 to P1,105.01. On Feb. 21, prices were between P1,055 and P1,100.48.

Prices of domestic sugar bounced back in February after a drop in January. On Feb. 7, prices reached   as high as P1,051.89 per Lkg for Passi I and on  Feb. 14, “B” sugar prices were  between P1,035 and P1,067.

Guimaras milkfish project
to end March 14

The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department will culminate its Season-Long Training Course on Milkfish Cage Culture and Harvest for the oil spill-affected Guimaras fisherfolk on March 14 at the SEAFDEC/AQD Igang Marine Station in Nueva Valencia town.

The pilot project, which started in October 8 last year, will end with a harvest and distribution of certificates to trainees from the four barangay beneficiaries of Nueva Valencia.

In July 2007, the Petron Foundation Inc. and SEAFDEC/AQD signed an agreement on a pilot project on milkfish cage culture as a livelihood program for fisherfolk affected by the oilspill, in collaboration also with Citi Foundation/Citi Philippines and the Province of Guimaras.
