seized in San Carlos
The police confiscated 1,000 board feet of lanipga and alayong, which are banned species of lumber, and 100 sacks of charcoal in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, recently.
Supt. Harold Tuzon, San Carlos police chief, yesterday said the 1,000 banned species of lumber, which where reportedly cut from the Northern Negros National Park, were found abandoned along the road in Brgy. Nataban, San Carlos City.
The 100 sacks of charcoal being readied for transport to Bacolod City without the necessary permit were also confiscated by the police along the highway of San Carlos City, he added.
A week before the confiscation of forest products, members of the San Carlos Police Station underwent a seminar on environmental laws conducted by the Community Environment and Natural Resources and the Provincial Environment and Management offices.
Tuzon said he has recommended to Mayor Eugenio Jose Lacson a comprehensive approach to the implementation of forestry and environmental laws in the city, by involving barangay tanods and officials.
The San Carlos police is exerting efforts to unmask the identities of suspects behind the cutting of 1,000 board feet of lumber from the city forestal areas.*GPB

Chief Inspector Arnel Arpon, in his report to police provincial director Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, said the grenade without its safety lever, was found by PO1 Abraham Golingan, while he was gathering vegetables near the tents of the retrenched MMC workers.
Golingan is among the six policemen assigned at the San Jose police outpost in Sipalay, who are facing complaints for grave misconduct, abuse of authority, conduct unbecoming of a police officer, for their refusal to honor a court order issued by Hinobaan Judge Armando Pia.
