The League of Municipal Mayors of the Philippines-Negros Oriental chapter has approved the request of the Philippine National Police for support in making its firing range the safest and most secure in the province.

Police provincial director, Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, made the request during the regular meeting of the league headed by Jimalalud Mayor Reynaldo Tuanda.

Each municipality will give P10,000 for the completion of the firing range at Camp Francisco Fernandez in Agan-an, Sibulan. In exchange, Buenafe offered the local chief executives membership to the club.

The firing range will be open for training of policemen from the municipalities, and those who wish to avail of the facility, Buenafe said. The PNP intends to hold a competition among local government units in July, he added.

Meanwhile, barangay officials continue to apprise themselves with the new budgeting operations manual. Seminar workshops have been scheduled for barangay captains, treasurers and the chairmen of the budget committees.

Participants also learn about the Government Procurement Reform Act as embodied in Republic Act 9184.

Officials from the Department of Budget and Management in Cebu and the Commission on Audit were resource speakers, including chief budget management specialist Jose Salvador of the DBM who discussed the four phases of budgeting yesterday.*JG
