| SSA’s 50th Anniversary 1
They came in droves to the 50th Anniversary of Foundation of Bacolod’s St Scholastica’s Academy.
It’s hard to imagine that this prestigious school had its humble beginnings in Shopping Center, way back in 1958, with only a handful of students. Now good old St. Scho has become “all things to all women (adopting St Paul’s words)”.
It has nurtured and developed future mothers, professional achievers, civic, social and religious leaders – you name it, she’s got it! – all serving God and country. Last week, activities for the celebration included the Unveiling of the Marker (at Shopping Center), a motorcade and a Family Fun Run (from Shopping Center to SSA).
The highlight of the celebration was the Testimonial Dinner and Awarding Ceremonies. It was a grand, grand evening where awards were given to the fitting recipients. The quality of the guest list read like a “Who’s Who” in the community. It began with a Eucharistic Mass celebrated by Msgr. Guillermo Gaston, Fr. Noly Que, Fr. Raymon Asoy and Fr. Dexter Somcio.
Everyone enjoyed the sumptuous dinner specially prepared for the occasion. Guests were entertained with musical numbers performed by St. Scholastican students.
During the Awarding Rites, Mother Mary John Mananzan, OSB Prioress, gave a message of Thanks and Recognition of Past Awardees. The awardees were St. Benedict Benefactors Award given to Alfredo Montelibano Sr. and family, Jose Marie and Margarita Locsin and Raul and Sylvia Torres.
The Twin Saints Award was given to Drs. John and Ma. Carolina Alejano, Raymundo and Ma. Lourdes Garcia, Mayor Evelio and Elsa Leonardia, Roberto and Cynthia Magalona, Luis Francisco and Ma. Regina Martin, and Sergio and Carmen Tan.
Other awards were the Scholastican Achievers Gold Award, Gold Dove Award (Scholastican mothers), Missions Award, Award for Teacher True and Employees Excellence Award.
We noticed that a number of Zontians like Nana Yulo, Nelia Jacinto, Suzzette Moñozca, Patching Puentevella and Mila Moya were Gold Dove awardees.
What a memorable evening it was for all those who were there. Kudos to Sr. Lucy Togle, OSB Directress, for a smashing celebration!*
