Local shuttlers rule
Kason Visayas tilt
BY NIDA BUENAFE

Palarong Pambansa champion Nikki Servando bagged two crowns Sunday to lead the local charge in the 2nd Kason Cup Visayas Championships at the Pohang Badminton Center in Bacolod City.

Servando’s victories all came at the expense of Ballenas sisters Precious Mae and Precious Minnie.

In a battle of former Palarong Pambansa titlists, Nikki rallied past Precious Mae, 19-21, 21-17, 22-20, for the 16-Under crown.

In contrast, Nikki easily took out Precious Minnie, 21-3, 21-13, in the 14-Under finals.

The other titlists from Bacolod were Christian Crisostomo (boys’ 16-Under), Renz Adrian Esclabanan (boys 12-Under), Patrick Yap (8-Under boys), Nikki Lumogdang (girls’ 10-Under) and Milcah Barredo (8-Under girls).

Crisostomo, who will see action in the Regional Palaro late this month, overpowered Cadiz City’s Aljons Aloyan, 21-17, 21-10, in the finals. Rogel Mangasi of Cadiz settled for third.

Esclabanan defeated Alem Palmares of Bacolod, 21-16, 21-18, for the crown. Louie Media won third place.

Yap went through a wringer before disposing Carl Jericho Tan, 23-21, 16-21, 21-19.

Lumogdang, meanwhile, shrugged off a sputtering start in pulling off the most dramatic win of the tournament when she defeated Cadiz’s Mitzi Joy Pantoja, 9-21, 30-29, 21-11.

Barrido toppled Jobelle Lo, 21-13, 21-17.

Cadiz won two titles courtesy of Dhessa Mae Arino, who downed Dianne Bibiano, 21-10, 21-12, and Kerr Aloyan, who trounced Carl Ivan Baguios, 21-10, 21-7.

Jad Diaz delivered Iloilo’s lone title when he triumphed over Robert Longno of Cadiz, 19-21, 26-24, 21-8.*NAB
