gender sensitivity gab

A three-day gender sensitivity training was conducted for 60 Nursing faculty members of the Colegio San Agustin in Bacolod City, recently, a press release from organizers said.

Resource persons were Dr. Helen Correa of the Commission of Higher Education; Dr. Rosario Asong - University of the Philippines in the Visayas; lawyer Annabelle Corral-Respall and Silay City Councior Marie June Pavillar-Castro.

Correa handled the sessions on the “Global, National and Regional Situation of Women,” and topics on “Sex and Gender,” “Gender Dynamics,” and the “Structures and Forces that Influence Gender Roles/ Relation.”

Respall tackled the “Manifestation of Gender Bias,” and “Gender Laws and Policies;” Castro provided inputs on the topics “Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights” and “Violence Against Women and Children,” and Asong facilitated the workshop on “Visioning a Gender-Fair Society,” and gave inputs on “Engendering the Curriculum,” the press release said.

Also conducted were lecture-discussions, film showings and structured learning exercises.

Dean Marybeth Marcial of the CSA-B Nursing department said the training was aimed at enabling participants to re-examine their ideas and attitudes on gender relations; recognize gender issues; and how to integrate gender in various nursing subjects, among others, the press release added.*

Kung Fu kids show moved

The main cast of the first locally produced live-action anime, “Kung Fu Kids,” will hold a show at the SM Event Center in Bacolod City 3 p.m. Sunday, a press release from the management said.

Jairus Aquino, Joseph Andrei Garcia, Eliza Pineda, Paul Salas, Jane Oineza, Kristofer Martin Dangculos and Joshua Dionisio will meet and greet with their Negrense fans at the mall’s northwing event centre.

Kung Fu Kids is about friendship, love for family and courage. The seven destined kids are led by Lembot, played by Aquino, the weakest and least confident, who trained under the village idiot who turns out to be a Kung Fu master from China, the press release said.

The kids have super powers. They were born with no extraordinary ability to overcome odds, but to be able to do feats, they rely on discipline and focus, the press release added.*

Piano studio holds
annual contest

The Annual Memory and Sightplaying Piano Contest to develop the skills of students was held by the SOJ Music Studio, at Greensville II, Bacolod City, recently, a press release from the studio said.

Performing from memory allows the students to express themselves spontaneously without relying on a printed page, while sight playing fluency enables them to perform a musical composition at first sight, without previous practice.

First to fourth place winners and their respective categories were: Elementary A – Robert Gerard Uy, Audrey Su, Kyla Rae Jolingan, Emilee Caye Garingalao and Bea Marie Tabligan; Elementary B – Timothy John Ureta, Janice Francyne Uychiat, Louis Miguel Lo, and Errika Carmela Uychiat;

Elementary C – Hazel Arabelle Javellana, Christian Genon, Jessa Ivana Sian, and Samantha Nicole Leonardia; Elementary D – Kathrina Layon, Dane Marie Debulgado, Victorino Alcala II, Felix Kevin IV and Paulene Joy Ramirez;

Elementary E – Maria Rosarita Mesina, Raphael Joseph Ledesma, Judy Grace Baniquet, and Leandro Montilla; Elementary F – Jobert Chong, Michelle Marie Baylon, Paul Ryan Labra, and Nadine Noelle Agraviador;

Intermediate A – Loreanne Novem Loriezo, Dana Lei Zabala, and Natalie Yao; Intermediate B – Ezra Magallona, Daniela Marie Mesina, Maria Jessica Mesina, and Joanne Grace Liu, the press release said.

Adjudicators were April Joy Ponce de Leon, and Ann Carmona, the press release added.*

Vice guvs to hold assembly

Close to 50 officials are expected to participate in the 35th National Assembly of the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines hosted by the Negros Occidental government tomorrow at L’Fisher Hotel, Bacolod City, a Capitol press release said.

LVGP National President Julius Caesar Herrera of Bohol said that the gathering kicks off the league’s major island assemblies, which will be held alternately among Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, to highlight the best practices of the different provinces as well as become the venue for members to exchange notes on local initiatives.

The assembly will tackle the following topics: “Legal Discussion on Issues Affecting the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the Office of the Vice Governor” and the “Launching of the LVGP Alternative Learning Styles Program for the Provinces”, the press release said.

Negros Occidental Acting Gov. Isidro Zayco is an appointed national officer who holds the position of business manager, the press release added.*
