| Mayor Rodulfo Gonzales Jr. of Valencia, Negros Oriental, said yesterday that he was dismayed by the delay in project implementation in his municipality.
The first quarter of 2008 is about to end, and they are just beginning to implement projects this year, he said.
Development projects should be implemented immediately, especially those that directly benefit the people of Valencia, he said.
Meanwhile, he said they have recently formulated the Executive Legislative Agenda for the year 2008.
The agenda, required by the Department of Interior and Local Government, will be the guiding manual for the project and program implementation of the locality.
Valencia has an operating budget of P155 million, with the bulk allocated for infrastructure and water development projects.
About P42.6 million has been allocated for the concreting of farm-to- market roads in Valencia under the comprehensive development plan.
Poor road networks would affect farmers since they cannot bring their farm products to the market, Gonzales said.
During a meeting, the barangay captains of Puhagan, Malaunay and Caidiocan agreed to put in some funds for the road concreting from Palinpinon to the geothermal site, he said.
The estimated project cost is P50 million.
They will also be asking the provincial government to contribute some funds for the project since it is a provincial road, Gonzales said.
The PNOC-EDC also said it would contribute through the use of its heavy equipment.
Implementation of the project should begin immediately in order to take advantage of the dry season, Gonzales added.*MA
