Dumaguete City Water District manager Esperato Dicen yesterday welcomed the move of the Negros Oriental provincial government to address climate change.

The climate change issue should be everybody’s concern, because it directly affects the environment and people’s lives, Dicen said.

The Negros Oriental Advisory Council on Climate Change will be holding a Climate Change Summit on May 9, to be participated in by local government officials from Negros island, and representatives from the private and non-government organizations.

At the recent anniversary of the Rotary Club, Gov. Emilio Macias II presented the lyrics of the song with the tune of “Greenfield’s” for the climate change campaign.

The musical campaign would entice and tickle the interest of the community in the importance of addressing climate change as many still do not understand its effects, Dicen said.

The song should also be introduced to elementary pupils to create awareness, he added.

At present, the DCWD is continuously expanding its watershed project in Valencia as an identified groundwater source of Dumaguete.

Dicen said they encouraged the community, especially the water concessionaires to plant more fruit trees as part of their Urban Forestry project.*MA
