Two children in Cadiz
fall into river, missing
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Two sisters disappeared in the Sicaba River after they fell off a bamboo bridge in Barangay Caduhaan, Cadiz City, at about 4 p.m. yesterday, Vice Mayor Samson Mirhan said last night.

The two were identified as Jonalyn, 12, and Jessa Joy, 6, Dimotica, he said.

It was raining hard so the teachers allowed their pupils at the Barangay Caduhaan Elementary School to go home earlier than usual, he said.

The Dimotica siblings with five other pupils were crossing the bamboo bridge over the Sicaba River overflow on their way to Hacienda Estella where they live, a kilometer from the school, Mirhan said.

The children were reportedly playing and shaking the bridge as they crossed that may have been the reason why the two fell in the water, he added.

An 18-year-old still unidentified male was able to rescue the five children but the two siblings were allegedly sucked into the whirling water, the vice mayor said.

The Cadiz Create Rescue group also joined the search for the two but they were not found by nightfall, he said.

The search will resume first hour today, he said.

The vice mayor is still hoping the children will be found alive.*CPG
