‘Salisi’ gang strikes;
cash, jewelry stolen

Despite warnings from law enforcers against thieves pretending to be house owners’ relatives, three more helpers at a high-end subdivision residence fell victim to members of the “salisi” gang yesterday, the police said.

Two unidentified persons took an estimated P200,000 worth of cash and checks, a laptop computer, and a digital camera from the house of Arnel Chua at Sta. Clara Subdivision Phase 1, in Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod, at about 10 a.m. yesterday, PO1 Donnie Garcia of Police Station 3, said.

Chua’s helpers told the police a man called telling them he is their employer’s nephew and that they are waiting at the subdivision’s entrance.

The man, who had a female companion he introduced as his wife, then told one of the helpers, Arlene Olano, to accompany her to a hotel while he proceeded to Chua’s bedroom without arousing suspicion from the other house helpers, Garcia said.

They only discovered later that their employer’s money and appliances were missing after the suspects had left, Garcia added.

The man was also the suspect in three previous “salisi” gang robberies that involved houses in posh subdivisions, Garcia said.

The man had also hit a residence in Brgy. Villamonte earlier, Police Station 4 commander, Chief Inspector Santiago Rapiz, said, adding that they are conducting follow-up investigations on him.

Meanwhile, Garcia said they will seek the help of the National Bureau of Investigation to create a sketch of the man’s female companion based on the description of Chua’s helpers.

The man, who speaks fluent Ilonggo, is about 20-25 years old, is about 5 feet 8 inches tall, has fair complexion, and is of small build, Garcia said.*PP

‘Drug pusher’ apprehended

A drug peddler under the police watchlist was arrested by the Bacolod City Police Office Drug Enforcement Unit in a midday buy-bust operation Monday, BCPO director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, said yesterday.

Ludovico Zamora was nabbed by BCPO-DEU operatives at his house in Brgy. 27, Bacolod, at about 11:30 a.m. Monday, Quebrar said.

Recovered from Zamora, who is number four on the BCPO drugs watch list, were six sachets of suspected shabu valued at about P3,000 and disposable lighters, he said.

Zamora admitted to selling the prohibited substance in a television interview, saying he just gets them from a dealer.

Zamora, who did not resist arrest, will be facing charges for violations of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, Quebrar said.

Quebrar had tagged barangays 27, two, and eight, in Bacolod, to be drug concern areas because of widespread illegal substance peddling and use.

Meanwhile, Police Station 4 commander, Chief Inspector Santiago Rapiz, whose area covers Brgy. 27, said he welcomes Zamora’s arrest because this will lessen the number of drug personalities there.*PP
