| The Department of Education Division of Siquijor is doubling its effort to improve the outcome of the pupils in the National Achievement Test this month.
Division Superintendent, Dr. Aleli Abne, yesterday ordered intensive implementation of the local version of the Adopt-a-school program, where each education supervisor is given three schools to focus on and assist the principal, and teachers, to improve the performance of students in all subject areas.
Abne instructed supervisors to conduct weekly field visits to schools and monitor the status of the projects that focus mainly on students’ academic performance.
She expressed dismay about the outcome of the last year’s NAT, and challenged all teachers and administrators to initiate better strategies to efficiently perform their duties and responsibilities as educators.
Siquijor division ranked lowest among the 15 divisions in Region 7 or Central Visayas. Some 1,670 Grade 6 pupils from 59 public elementary schools took the 2007 National Achievement Test in English and 1,747 Grade III pupils took the reading test conducted by the DepEd.
Out of the 59 schools taking the reading test, only 17 or 29 percent obtained above the division, regional and country performance; 5 or eight percent obtained above the division and regional performance but below the country performance; while 37 schools or 63 percent obtained below the division, regional and country performance.*RG
