| Dumaguete officials are planning to acquire a complete dressing plant facility worth P30 million for the city slaughterhouse through a grant from a funding agency, or through a firm, for a possible build-operate-transfer scheme.
Chief Jose Ronnie Fortin of the Market Enterprise said, all documents needed are being processed as part of the grant requirements.
Nothing is fixed yet, though, until a memorandum of agreement will be signed by Mayor Agustin Perdices, Fortin said.
Earlier, Perdices ordered Fortin to make a feasibility study and design for a dressing plant that will still be constructed beside the city slaughterhouse.
The dressing plant is used for slaughtering domestic fowl like chickens or turkeys. In Dumaguete, chickens are the most common poultry product sold in the market.
Perdices said the city does not have enough funds for the P30 million dressing plant.
At present some of the poultry products are from backyard raisers, but do not pass through meat inspections.
It is important to examine poultry products especially from backyard raisers, because they might be contaminated with diseases, Fortin added.*MA
