ATO airs Silay
airport warning

BY NIDA BUENAFE

Antonio Alfonso, local manager of the Air Transportation Office, yesterday warned the public against unscrupulous persons at the new Bacolod-Silay Airport who might collect fees for pushcarts or charge them for porter’s services.

Alfonso said all passengers have free access to the pushcarts and ATO has not allowed any porter inside the premises of the airport.

He said the public should be aware of this since ATO personnel are still in the “adjustment period” in running the new airport and they expect to iron out all kinks in the operation within six months.

Alfonso also advised the public to transact only with legitimate and accredited transport operators who have booths inside the terminal to avoid exorbitant charges from colorum operators.

Meanwhile, the ATO manager said that aeronautical charges that include among others, terminal fees, at the new airport will be increased in the coming months.

He said all stakeholders met last month for the first hearing of the new rates and they are scheduled to meet again this month. New rates will be implemented after the public is informed about it through a publication, Alfonso said.

Among others, Alfonso said the existing terminal fee of P30 will be increased to P200.

Increased fees are necessary since the airport needs to earn for its operation and repay the funds loaned for its construction.*NAB
