Negros Oriental’s food products go international

Five food delicacies produced in Negros Oriental will be featured in the International Food Exhibition Philippines 2008, May 16-18, at the SMEX Convention Center, Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Information officer Tammy Sevilla of the provincial Department of Trade and Industry said the local products will be showcased, along with other producers from Central Visayas.

This year’s IFEX is held under the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions’ Partner Region Program. Negros products included are the “energy food”, a combination of ampaw and dehydrated fruits; jam squares; baye-baye, bod-bod kabog, and the bod-bod of Tanjay.

Food companies have been getting assistance in packaging development/enhancement to make their products competitive, both in the domestic and international markets.

Owners are given trainings/seminars in production and marketing topics, to help improve their production towards a safe and quality products, as well as equip them with the knowledge to improve their negotiation skills in dealing with local and foreign buyers.

Sevilla said, during the IFEX, all products from Region 7, in their enhanced packaging and labels will be showcased in a special setting at the main exhibition hall, where local and foreign buyers are expected to visit.*RG
