BFP in Talisay to hold
fire prevention month

The Bureau of Fire Protection in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, will celebrate its 41st Fire Prevention Month on the theme “Prevent Fire: Be Informed, and Get Involved,” starting today until March 31, a press release from the bureau said.

Activities lined up by the agency under city fire marshal, Chief Insp. Fred Trajeras Jr., in coordination with Mayor Eric Saratan, include a motorcade, distribution of Fire Department stickers, and lectures and fire drills at the public market, City Hall, educational institutions and private corporations.

The motorcade today will be followed by a medical-dental mission by foreign medical practitioners. A quiz bee will be held March 13, to be participated in by different elementary pupils of Talisay, the press release said.

On the culmination day, a fun run will be held from the City Hall to the public plaza, the press release added.*

Dance recital set tonight

A dance recital in three acts called “Thumbelina” will be staged 7 tonight by the MMB Dance Center, at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum, in Bacolod City, a press release from organizers said.

The affair is a fusion of ballet, jazz and hiphop, and follows the story of a tiny girl no bigger than a thumb who hopes to find love from her own kind. 

One of the more popular fairy tale classics by author Hans Christian Andersen, well loved music such as Let Me Be Your Wings by Barry Manilow and Follow Your Heart will be immortalized in brilliantly-choreographed dance numbers by Dr. Mary Ann Morales-Base and Victor Uy, director-choreographer, the press release said.

Proceeds of the show will go to the Pediatrics Department of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod, the press release added.*

Maja Salvador endorses
new call and text promo

Actress and dance princess Maja Salvador is the latest celebrity endorser of Sun Cellular, a press release from the company said.

Kabankalan
welcomes DepEd exec

The Department of Education in Kabankalan City held a welcome program recently for Elisa Broñola, the new schools division superintendent, a press release from Kabankalan said.

Broñola replaced Rizalino Tortosa, now assigned as Negros Occidental Schools Division Superintendent, a post vacated by Supt. Eva Belicena, who just retired.

The delegation from La Carlota City were welcomed by Elena Olvido, assistant schools division superintendent of Kabankalan.

Tortosa, in his response message, said the division of Kabankalan has zero administrative cases, and that no teacher is left unpaid.  He also cited the full support given by the Zayco administration for the betterment of education in the city, the press release said.

Also present at the program were Councilors Mamerto Mayoga, chairman on committee on education, and Aniceto Villaluz, vice-chairman.

Tortosa turned over the key of responsibility to Broñola, who later said in her message that she will try her best to elevate DepEd Kabankalan to a higher rank.

During Broñola’s term in La Carlota, the city ranked no.1 in Negros and no. 5 in the region VI. A fellowship lunch followed the program, the press release added.*
