Recycling market
at SM Bacolod today

SM City Bacolod holds its Recycling Market Day at the North Transport Terminal, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

The recycling market, held every first Saturday of the month, provides drop-off areas and buying stations for recyclables and non-traditional waste for the Bacoleños.  Called the R-Day, it is a collecting and buying event for recyclable materials that can be redeemed for cash on-the-spot by the recyclers.

Shoppers can trade for cash traditional and non-traditional waste items such as used papers and cartons, old electronics/ electrical equipment, used lead acid batteries, used PET bottles and other plastics, aluminum cans, scrap glass, used printer inks and toners, used ink/ toner catridges, and used tires, used oil.

The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod, through its Resolution No.  27, series of 2008, commended the Waste Market Fair and Green Bag projects of SM City Bacolod.

The SP said the projects are a positive undertaking coming from the private sector and service-oriented establishment that helps the city in its Clean and Green Program through promoting segregation at source as a first step to a more responsive Solid Waste Management Program.

SM Supermalls started the Waste Market Fair in support of Republic Act 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act. At the Waste Market Fair, one can transact business with recycling companies and exchange for cash recyclable items that have no value or those that are considered hazardous like polystyrene, Styrofoam, cellphones and batteries.*
