ILOILO CITY – Hotels and other businesses are making a windfall in the aftermath of the massive flooding that hit this city last week.
Hotels, from budget rooms to high-end ones, have been fully booked since Sunday catering to affluent families who evacuated from their flooded and muddied houses, Robert Ferrer, president of the Iloilo Hotels, Resorts and Restaurants Association, said.
With a total of 1,000 rooms, the city's hotels are usually fully booked only during major events like seminars and conventions and during popular festivals like the February 2 Jaro fiesta and the Dinagyang festival in January.

Sibuyan fishing industry suffers
after sinking of Sulpicio ferry
ESPANA, Sibuyan Island – Fisherman Robert Naiya looks out across the still waters towards the bow of the ill-fated Princess of the Stars and asks: "What about us?"
"We should be out fishing today," he said, but a government ban has meant that Naiya and his friends just sit on their colorful boats that dot the beach, talking and wondering what the future holds.
The near 24,000-ton passenger ferry capsized during Typhoon Frank on June 21 with more than 850 people on board in this picturesque bay on the south coast of Sibuyan island.
