NORSU inaugurates
P3-M hospital

The Negros Oriental State University inaugurated a P3 million mini-hospital for its College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences located at the third floor of the CNAHS Building, NORSU Main Campus I, in Dumaguete City.

The blessing was held in line with the fourth Charter anniversary celebration of the university.  Dr. Dalisay Dumalag, CNAHS Dean, said the structure is equipped with operation, surgery, delivery and other basic hospital care facilities.

It also has a lecture room that can cater to at least 50 students, she added. At present, the department has 17 senior and 38 junior students.

Under  the  law,  all  schools  offering nursing courses  must have  a  mini-library where students  can learn  basic  hospital procedures, she said.

Dumalag said they also have plans to provide pre-natal care for pregnant women.*MA

Bacolod City steps up
TIP measures at ports

The Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking  yesterday discussed plans to intensify anti-trafficking in persons operations at  seaports in Bacolod City, a press release from Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, BC-GAD Council chairperson, said.

The project is initiated by the Bacolod City Gender and Development Council in partnership the Visayan Forum Foundation Inc. and the Philippine Ports Authority.

The GAD Council recently supported the observance of the World’s Day Against Child Labor, with the view of addressing child trafficking, the press release said.

Based on the actual cases in Bacolod, traffickers often victimize women and children who are poor, unemployed or underemployed, luring them with false promises of good jobs and better lives, only to be forced to work under brutal and inhuman conditions, the press release said. *

The committee was formed to ensure the historic celebration should involve a multi-sectoral participation from the government and the private sectors, the press release said.

Chairman of the committee is the mayor, vice chairman is Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, while Vice Chairman for the Masskara Festival is Eli Tajanlangit.

The vice chairmen are expected to immediately organize committees and coordinate with the mayor on the 70th Charter Day celebration activities, the press release added.*
