‘San Juan peaceful’
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The celebration of “San Juan” or the Feast of St. John the Baptist yesterday was relatively peaceful since very few people went to the beaches, Executive Assistant and City Disaster Coordinating Council action officer Joemarie Vargas yesterday said.

Vargas said perhaps because of inflation, people have opted not to spend their money on picnics.  Since prices of basic commodities have increased they would rather buy things needed by their families, he said.

He said some people flocked to Punta Taytay yesterday because of the fiesta celebration.

Vargas also said that very few celebrated San Juan this year because it fell on a workday and there were classes.

However, Vargas said the Bacolod City Federation of Rescue Operations together with the Public Safety and Emergency Management Section under the Office of the City Mayor fielded groups yesterday in preparation for the celebration of the San Juan festival along coastal barangays from Brgys. Punta Taytay to Banago.

He said they were equipped with eight rubber boats which they also used in their rescue operations during Typhoon Frank.*CGS
