Dressed in Hawaiian attires, 68 couples said their wedding vows in front of Mayor Eric Saratan in a romantic beach wedding in Purok Pihak Suba, Brgy. Zone 3, Talisay City yesterday, the affair coinciding with the celebration of the feast day of St. John the Baptist in the area.

The couples, most of them fisherfolk, were encouraged to be in Hawaiian garb to fit with the beach wedding motif of the “Kasalan Sa Baybay”, May Javier of the Mayor’s Office said.

Saratan who came with Vice Mayor Neil Lizares and members of the City Council onboard a rubberized boat, officiated the wedding rites while the vice mayor and the councilors stood as witnesses.

Drumbeaters were invited to set the mood for the celebration while purok and barangay leaders met the city officials at the seashore with garlands of flowers.

The couples and their sponsors joined a processional towards a makeshift canopy set up by their families and friends who surrounded them as they said their vows.

After the ceremony and the signing of the marriage contract, the couples gamely joined the “Longest Kiss” game where special prizes were given to 13 winning couples.

Another prize was given to the couple who looked best in their Hawaiian costume, she added.

Aside from wedding cakes donated by the city government, gifts were also distributed to all newlyweds, Javier said.

Meanwhile, in line with the celebration of the feast of St. John the Baptist in Bago City, a fluvial parade joined by the 24 barangays in the city was held in Bantayan Park, Poblacion.

Barangay Taloc bested other entries to take home the P10,000 cash prize from the city government while second placer Barangay Busay received P7,000 and third placer Barangy Ma-ao, P5,000.*NAB
