14 treated for
‘food poisoning'
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Fourteen persons were treated for alleged “food poisoning” Wednesday at the Cadiz Emergency Clinic, after eating shellfish known as “wasay-wasay”.

The victims, who are all residents of Zone 4 in Brgy. Banqueruhan, Cadiz City , were complaining of stomach aches, and vomited after eating the shells.

Marissa Persuelo, one of the victims, said the shells were sold by an unidentified ambulant vendor to them and her neighbors, which they cooked into adobo.

Dr. Sandra Arroyo, operations chief of the Cadiz Emergency Clinic, in an interview with DYHB, said she had recommended that the 14 victims be placed under observation.

However, a majority of the victims immediately went home after their treatment Wednesday night.

Arroyo said she will get a sample of the “wasay-wasay” eaten by the victims for laboratory examinations.

The 13 other victims were identified as Cesar Palang, Jonathan Palang, Rejoice Palang, Marie and Mark Fed Persuelo, Joevannie Alunan, Ramon Ramos, Alicia and Jeffward Alob, Paula, Salvador and Bienvenido Apsay.

Provincial Agriculturist Igmedio Tabianan yesterday cautioned Cadiz City residents against eating “wasay-wasay”, pending examination of the shellfish.*GPB
