Nuncio arriving in
Negros Aug. 3

His Excellency, the Most Reverend Edward Joseph Adams, Papal Nuncio to the Philippines will arrive in Bacolod City Aug. 3 to preside over the Episcopal Ordination of Bishop-Elect Gerardo Alimane Alminaza who was appointed by Pope Benedict VI as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Jaro and Titular Bishop of Maximiana Byzacena.

The Papal Nuncio will arrive at the Bacolod-Silay Airport at 10:30 a.m., and will proceed to Bacolod City in a motorcade passing through the San Diego Pro-Cathedral in Silay City and Talisay City , Msgr. Victorino Rivas, Vicar General of the Diocese Bacolod said.

Bishop-elect Alminaza was the Rector of the Sacred Heart Seminary-Bacolod school of Philosophy before his elevation to the episcopate. He is from Sipalay City .

The Episcopal Ordination will be held at the San Sebastian Cathedral at 8 am on Aug. 4. The Papal Nuncio will be co-consecrating with Archbishop Angel Lagdameo of Jaro and Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra who will also deliver the homily.

Eleven bishops from all over the country had already confirmed their attendance at the consecration, Rivas said.

Upon his arrival in Bacolod , the Papal Nuncio will be liturgically received at the San Sebastian Cathedral at noon of Aug. 3.

The City of Bacolod will tender a courtesy dinner for the Papal Nuncio as the Ambassador of the State of Vatican to the Philippines and as the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps of the Republic of the Philippines.*
