| Fourteen more dead ducks, believed to be attacked by a wild dog, were discovered in Barangay Camalobalo, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental Wednesday morning.
Camalobalo barangay captain Roberto Pacto yesterday said duck owner Joseph Juarez discovered only one duck left of the 15 that he raised in a small paddy beside his rice field, and informed him about it.
Pacto said he went and saw dead ducks with their innards ripped out and scattered on the ground.
He said that another farmer had more than a hundred ducks.
The barangay captain said it was the third time the “wild dog” attacked the ducks in the area. Those who saw the dog described it as a medium-sized animal with dark fur, he said.
Pacto said he has instructed the barangay tanods to shoot it if they chance upon it again.
Meanwhile, Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena yesterday called on the people in Camalobalo to refrain from eating the meat of the ducks killed by the “wild dog” as the meat might contain toxins which might further endanger the health of those who eat them.
Decena added, however, that aside from the stray dog, the ducks may have been killed by a hunting dog, such as a Doberman, that had broken free at night.
He said hunting dogs like poultry meats and have the tendency to go back to the site where it found its prey.*NAB
