| Induction, turnover rites
The Rotary Club of Bacolod–East held its 26th Induction and Turnover ceremonies recently at the L’Fisher Hotel, with district governor for 2008-2009 Emma Nava as inducting officer.
Incoming president Jun-Jun Arceo took over the reign from outgoing president Bong Estrella. Other officers are Toby Jison – vice president, Anton Sarabia – secretary, and directors Fatima Rapenot – club administration, Sonny Elegado – membership, Gilfredo Geolingo – service project, Phil Abello – Rotary foundation, and Lope Consing – director for public relation.
Joebert Cuaycong introduced the dignitaries, guests and visiting Rotarians. Even highlight was the speech of the guest of honor, David Valdes, president and chief executive officer of the WWF-Philippines, the Philippine office of the world’s largest conservation of plastic wastes.
Arceo gave presented Valdes with a painting done by local artist Rodney Martinez. The painting features three women representing Air, Earth and Water.
The event was well-attended by members of the Rotary Club of Bacolod-East, their spouses, president of the Rotary Club in Negros Occidental, past district governors, and district governor-elect Edgar Sy, among others.
Emcee of the evening was director Degaulle Geolingo Jr.

Filipino ring icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, the adopted son of Bacolod, visited the city yesterday to personally donate cash for victims of typhoon Frank. Thousands gathered by the roadside to greet the boxing hero.
