Ba-Neg softball teams

Filipino boxing icon and Bacolod City’s adopted son Manny Pacquiao yesterday said he is willing to give assistance to the softball little leaguers from Bacolod-Negros team who will represent the country in the World Series in the United States next month.

However, the boxing champ said he can only give so much as he also needs to save some of his purse money from boxing for the future of his kids and his family.

Pacquiao, who was given a hero’s welcome yesterday by the city government, faced the local media in a press conference held after his motorcade.

Included in the agenda are the evaluation of last year’s provincial sports activities and the schedule of the provincial athletic meet.

La Salle beats UST in UAAP

MANILA – La Salle's hero, James Mangahas, scored a double-pump lay-up in the last 47.7 seconds for the defending champion Green Archers with a precarious but exhilarating 85-81 triumph over University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP seniors basketball tournament yesterday at Pasig City's Philsports Arena.

The aggressive Mangahas converted the go-ahead basket while sandwiched between two Growling Tigers for DLSU's 82-81 lead in the dying seconds of the game.

UST tried to regain the advantage but rookie Jeric Fortuna missed two three-pointers, including an ill-advised attempt where he just chopped of two seconds from the shot clock
