beat Guam teams
BY NIDA BUENAFE

GUANGZHOU , China – Bacolod-Negros softball teams from the Education and Training Center School and Domingo Lacson National High School showcased their softball superiority as they cruised to easy victories yesterday against Guam in the opening of the 2008 Little League Girls Softball Asia Pacific Tournament at the Huangcun Sports Training Base here.

The ETCS Major League team (11-12 years old) overwhelmed Guam, 11-0, in the 8 a.m. opener while DNHS Juniors League (13-14) blanked their Guam counterparts, 3-0, to send a strong signal of dominating this world series qualifying event.

Alvin A/P still unbeaten

Winless Sucden Phils. almost registered the biggest upset in the ongoing Basketball United Sports Group Sharp Cup Quadrangular Basketball Tournament at the Lopue's South Square gym in Bacolod City , but came up short as league-leading Alvin Auto Parts survived with 59-58 win to maintain their unbeaten record.

Second-running Team “S” edged Axial Engineering, 85-84, to keep their place in the second spot.

Both triumphs could have gone the other way but for the lucky breaks.

MANILA – With the opening of two of the country's premier collegiate leagues, PBL coaches are now busy scouting for players whom they can possibly pick for the 2009 Rookie Draft slated on Oct. 20.

Though most of the league's marquee players are turning pro next month, PBL Commissioner Chino Trinidad believes that there are many players from the UAAP and NCAA as well as from other collegiate leagues in Metro Manila and Cebu who are ready to take a bigger challenge.
